Radically Inclusive THERAPY & Counseling in Asheville

Radically Inclusive Therapy (1).png

In my Asheville therapy office, I offer therapy services that are radically inclusive. This means that I work with people of all genders, sexual orientations, races, cultures, faiths, abilities, sizes, neurotypes & lifestyles. I love the saying, “Y'all means all,” since I welcome ALL people into my therapy practice. Those who live traditional lives as well as folks who don't identify with a dominant (white, heterosexual, cisgendered) paradigm. I work to honor people's FULL SELF and all the unique and complicated aspects of identity and expression.

I offer Individual Therapy, EMDR Therapy, Couples/ Relationships Therapy, and Online Therapy to residents of NC and CA. My services are trauma-informed, people-centered, gender-affirming, culturally humble, neurodiverse aware & LGBTQIA+ celebrating. Let me break these down a bit more…

People-Centered: I use a heart-centered and people-centered approach to therapy. While, I have a vast amount of advanced training in trauma, attachment, neuroscience, etc. I lead with my heart. I bring my human-ness, humor, humility, and authenticity into the work that I do with others. I view relationships to be the crucial ingredient to healing and keep relationships at the center of my work.

Trauma-Informed: I work with the whole person, taking into account past trauma, current trauma, and the current oppressive contexts that a person is living in. I honor coping mechanisms that result from trauma and compassionately work with these. I have had the honor to work alongside trauma survivors for over a decade. I have trained in powerful interventions like EMDR and IFS that help to not only treat trauma but to transform it.

Gender-affirming: I offer a safe place for folks to explore gender identity and expression. I will follow your lead and accompany you on your gender journey helping you to navigate on your own terms. I can provide the necessary information and guidance as needed. I will advocate on your behalf, (should you choose) support you through your social and medical transition.

Culturally humble: I work to acknowledge, examine, and understand my own unearned privilege and power of my intersecting identities of being a white, middle class, queer, cisgendered woman.  I try to demystify the therapy process by being transparent, collaborative and acknowledging power imbalances (and unearned privilege) that operate in society as well as the therapy room. I am ready to explore the ways that racism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, and cis-normativity impacts all of us.

Neurodiverse affirming: I work to understand how each person’s brain works and become attuned to the way that you communicate so that you don’t have to mask in therapy. I provide options for seating, movement, stemming, tailor sensory factors in the office, and offer weighted blankets/ pillows & fidgety toys. I try to incorporate the written word and I leave a lot of space for you to be able to process and express your thoughts. I am committed to finding creative ways to meet you in your process. I understand that it is exhausting to have to live in a neurotypical world, that it is designed for neurotypical brains, and that it takes a lot of spoons to navigate the world as it is. I help people to understand their own capacity and needs so that they can develop a rhythm that supports their sensory and social needs to prevent overwhelm or burnout.

LGBTQIA+ celebrating: I am not just LGBTQIA+ “friendly,” I believe that sexual and gender diversity are natural expressions of the human experience. I honor, uplift, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ identified folks.
