Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS RADICALLY INCLUSIVE COUNSELING?

I welcome ALL people -  those who live traditional lives as well as folks who don't identify with the dominant paradigm. I work to honor people's FULL SELF and all the unique and complicated aspects of identity and expression. Check out my blog HERE to read more!

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Do you have openings?: I do not have any current availability. (updated 2/2024)

Free 15-minute phone consultation: The purpose of the call is for you to get a sense of how I work, ask any questions you may have about me, and ensure a good connection. We will briefly explore what you are struggling with as I want to ensure that my training and experience align with your needs. If I do not have the expertise in the areas that you need - then I will give you some carefully-chosen referrals. We also discuss the nuts and bolts, like scheduling, frequency, and fee.

Schedule a session: At the end of the 15-minute phone consultation, we will schedule a time to meet in person. You will need to provide a credit card to reserve your appointment. I have a 48- hour cancellation policy.

Getting started: I will send you an email with a link to my secure, HIPAA-compliant database through Simple Practice, where you can sign all the necessary consents to get started in therapy. I like to get the paperwork out of the way before the first session so that when we meet, we can get to work.

WHAT DOES THERAPY COST?

My fee is $225 per 50-minute individual and couple/partnership sessions and $250 for a 60-minute family therapy session.

WHAT DOES CONSULTATION/ SUPERVISION COST?

My fee for consultation/ supervision is on a sliding scale of $150-$225 for 50 minutes.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I am considered an Out of Network Provider. There is a chance that you will be reimbursed for your out-of-network therapy costs. A good first step is contacting your insurance company to see their reimbursement rate for Out of Network Providers.  I can provide you with a receipt you can submit to your insurance company called a “superbill.” This will have all the necessary information to be reimbursed for your out-of-pocket therapy costs. This superbill also requires a diagnosis code. If you and I decide to work together, we will talk more about what this means.

HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

I work intensely with people and like to start by meeting once a week. I have found the best results happen this way. The frequency of therapy sessions is determined by what is happening for you. If things are hard, it could be indicated to meet twice a week. When things are getting better, reducing frequency may be indicated.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?

This is such a great question. And, of course, there is no simple answer.  Each person, situation, and couple is unique. At the beginning of our work together, we will discuss how you will know it is time to end therapy by clearly defining the changes you want to see.  We will frequently revisit your goals to ensure that the therapy is getting at the things you need. I encourage honest and open dialogue about your experience in therapy. This helps me to understand your needs better, and we can course-correct as needed. Change is not always linear and can ebb and flow. This can be confusing or concerning. It is important that we are talking about this together all throughout our work together.

WHAT IS A Good Faith Estimate/ No Surprises ACT?

Under the law, healthcare providers must give clients who don’t have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.  You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service or at any time during treatment.  If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.  For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

HOW CAN I PAY for THERAPY?

I require services to be paid for at the time that they are provided. I accept cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or health savings account cards. I have a secure HIPAA-compliant application called IvyPay where you can enter and save your card information. The app will charge your card after your appointment. Most people find this easy and convenient, as you do not have to remember money or your checkbook. And we don't have to take time in session swiping and re-swiping things in our time together.

where are you located?

I offer virtual therapy services to residents of North Carolina and California.

My office in Asheville, NC. For in-person sessions, I have COVID cautious protocols that I implement. This includes communicating about unwellness and making a plan for telehealthn as indicated, masking when non contagious and sick, sitting more than 6 feet apart, and running an air purifier. I will implement telehealth sessions when transmission rates are heightened, increased exposure or risk level, or if either therapist or client has any symptoms.

I serve clients in the surrounding Western North Carolina area, including Weaverville, Burnsville, Hendersonville, Arden, Leicester, Candler, and Swannanoa.

all of these bodies,

these queer bodies,

These bodies that if we weren’t
so intent on controlling them
might actually teach us about
the vastness of creation.
